40 Hands

Could almost sniff the enticing aroma of 40 Hands coffee on so many blog sites, and hope to try it one day when the tiny shop in Tiong Bahru is a little less crowded. Somehow I am not into take-away coffee. I just need to have it on the premises.  It’s part of the whole experience. Sipping it slowly while reading a book or chatting. Rushed coffee is just no fun.

The reason why boutique coffee joints are so popular now is because there are so few of them.  Just shows that Singapore’s coffee addicts (myself included) are becoming a lot more discerning about coffee and realizing that Coffee Bean and Starbucks do not make as good lattes as we thought they did.  There’s something better out there, not so diluted with milk, with a stronger espresso base and adorble coffee art and even the cutest coffee mugs.  Then there’s the cosiness of the coffee place that’s different from the usual duplicated decor of Coffee Bean, Starbucks or Tullys.

Even the seats outside were all taken.

It was quite charming that the place is within this old estate. I think these old low-rise flats are quite charming and if only all HDB flats were designed this way. I guess it’s not possible with out scarcity of land as flats seem to be getting taller and more packed together, with smaller rooms these days.
