Thinking about Arab Street

My heart definitely belongs to charming Arab Street. What I mean is the whole of Kampong Glam, including Haji Lanes and all the lovely little shops and cafes. It’s one place that I can’t wait to return to. I especially can’t wait to explore it with my cousin. All those hidden alleys, nooks and crannies.

I have been wondering about the tall building in the background of this photo. Found out it’s Parkview Square and it’s on North Bridge Road, but is visible from Arab Street. It’s the office building next to Bugis MRT which is the closest MRT to Arab Street. The architectural style of the office building is Art Deco.

If you take the MRT, you need to get off at exit B which is next to Raffles Hospital and Golden Landmark Hotel. Across the Road from the Hotel is Kampong Glam.

There’s an interesting Singapore Travel video here all about exploring Kampong Glam – our Muslim or Malay and Arab Quarter.

You should go check out Piedra Negra, the Mexican restaurant at the corner of Haji Lane and Beach Road. Their food is delicious and pretty authentic.

I like to call that the Gotham City Building….you should go inside if you have the time. There is a huge bar in the lobby area, with a 3 storey wine cabinet. In order to get the wines at the top, they harness a girl to go up on a pulley thingy.

I really want to go there, but I’ve been a hermit of late from the overwhelming “morning” (hah) sickness.

  4. I’ve always thought that tall building was a hotel, cuz it looks too nice to be an office building. It is pretty eye-catchy, but there are few like that in singapore, office buildings are all grey and blockish…
