Prettiest Italian Restaurant in Singapore: Cugini at Club Street

This was one of the prettiest restaurants I’ve dined at. The turqoise on white combination was perfect.  The decor transported me to some European holiday isle. The food’s not bad either.

The grilled chicken pizza. I am sure this was made in a wood fired oven. At first I thought it was too much and we would have to have some packed back. But in the end it was so light and the crust was very fine and fluffy. What a contrast to the oily heavy pizza we usually order in when we have nothing to eat and don’t want to go out to buy something.

The pasta was lovely too. B said it was similar to what he’s had at Pasta Fresca, but he added that the Cugini bacon was far superior. Perhaps Pasta Fresca’s would be better as the price is lower (the meal here came to about S$85), but you won’t get the same ambience. I would say this would be a nicer place for special occasions. Also this place serves authentic southern Italian cuisine and perhaps we should have been adventurous and tried other offerings on the menu.

The calamari was so yummy. The sauces were the best. Freshly made mayonnaise with that lovely pale yellow colour from the egg yolk.  B explained how mayo was made by beating together egg yolks and vinegar.  He explained that it takes a long time to make and you need patience and arm strength to keep whisking the mixture till it turns fluffy.

And more photos of that beautiful decor. Just all the pretty little details that we enjoyed soaking in and probably might have missed if not for blogging. The best part was the natural light flowing in from the glass ceiling. The air-conditioning was cold enough for the place not to get too warm.

Another nice thing is that the place was empty. It’s always nice to have a meal in a quiet sleepy place.

This place had the best sparkling water I’ve had so far. It was not bitter and too high in terms of the salt content I think. The wait staff will ask “sparking or still”, but I noticed there is the option of tap water. Just so you know.

The olive oil. Would have been nice to have some bread, but then we would have been too full.

    Very pretty indeed! How do you suss out these places? By the way, loved how your photos turned out! Very nice! Speaking of water, just came back from Madrid and sparkling water there is slightly saltier with larger bubbles. ;p

      Oh yes sparkling water should be much cheaper where you are and free too at some places?

        Nah.. the same as Singapore. Bottled/ Sparkling or Tap. If it comes from the tap, then it’s free! But Sparkling water is about the same price as bottled water here. Perhaps the only perk living here.. Hehe

        If I were where you are I would want to visit the chocolate factories and take a trip to the mountains for some fresh air 🙂

  3. The chairs look so blue here! I went once at night and didn’t realise the blueness. I love cugini. The squid ink pasta I had is the bestest I’ve ever tasted. Yeah away with heavy oil laden pizzas!

      Yeah…..this is kinda beyond our budget but it was a once in a while thing 🙂 Glad we got to try out out once and blogging about it makes it last longer.

  5. I went there and hopefully will again today. I had lovely burrata so much different like a big poach egg. and the lovely vegetarian pasta, the sauce was not the same as else where. it was spicy and nice. no complaints from my catty mouth. Drinking a glass of white wine did not make me drunk, as its was so much better that going to those other resturants. A bit of improvement was to make handmade pasta, but their pasta was also nice. I like the portions, it did not make you feel full and stuffed and silent.

I am an Italian, chef for passion, business manager in Europe but currently restaurant manager in Singapore where I met my wife… and the colours of this place really recall me my nice Country with its sea, sun and simple-yet-comfortable style! It is not easy to cook good food, neither is to cook real Italian food, like pizza and pasta with original ingredients which make the difference. Glad for your notes and that you appreciate Italian cuisine!
