It was heartwarming to see so many new faces standing up to be the voice of Singaporeans, and more importantly the voice of the poor and marginalized. I never felt more patriotic then when I heard these inspirational speeches of hope and have the Singapore National Pledge boomed out in unison by a swelling crowd that were extra polite and friendly to each other.
Used to say the words mindlessly as a child in primary school. This time we really understood and meant every single word. I must confess that I never felt prouder.
We the citizens of Singapore
pledge ourselves as one united people
regardless of race, language or religion
to build a democratic society
based on justice and equality
so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and
progress for our nation.
And I must say it was awesome to have the PM try to communicate with us on Facebook. Especially the part when PM Lee said he was a newbie and asked us not to flame him.
I am loving that we are experiencing a time of new hope and optimism.
