After our meal at Shibly Prata it was only natural to venture next door and be tempted by all the traditional cookies and sweets within. The little store called the Biscuit King is run by very friendly and welcoming owners. I observed them talking to every little tot that comes in. Yeah, there are loads of tiny tots having a blast at this store. I’m just glad they get to experience what we used to get in the 70’s. Back then, there were hardly any imported cookies besides butter cookies that came in a blue round tin from Denmark. That was a luxury items that we only got for birthdays and such.
If you want to see the real Singapore, you have to make a trip here. They keep their biscuits in the traditonal old fashioned tins as well.
Huge inflatable round biscuits with icing hang from the ceiling for an added dose of nostalgia. I used to love eating these and would just have the icing sometimes. The icing was so darn good.
All kinds of preserved fruit is sold here as well, plus candy of course.
My favourite biscuits include the lemon cream ones and the tiny pineapple jam biscuits shaped like a flower. I shouldn’t, but I love the Singapore style jelly beans too. We bought some and were told that if we purchased S$50 worth there would be free delivery to anywhere in Singapore. I am sure many people would love to have some of these for a nostalgia party or a kid’s party and free delivery sounds good.
Just remember that they are closed on Mondays.
