Tintin in Chinatown

Hi there. Thanks so much for dropping by. I’ve moved to Singapore Actually

Hope to see you there 🙂

*************************

When I first glanced at the store from a metre away I wondered if it was a store selling fake Tintin stuff. As I came closer, I was delighted to see how authentic it was.

The first time I saw a Tintin comic book was in the primary school library, but it was a bit too difficult for me to understand, although I found the pictures brilliant. I would love to get these one day and transport myself into that magical world. Somehow to me the actual comic books would give me more pleasure than seeing the stories in cartoon form. I look at these books as the combined genius of artist and writer.

At the store, Snowy was irresistible. Here are some photos from trip there. The person behind the counter, who I assumed was the owner, is the type of store owner I liked (remained at a distance allowing people to browse, didn’t hover over anyone, and didn’t stop anyone from taking photos). Not only does it build good will it also leads to free marketing when someone writes about the store on their blog. The reason why I mention this is because there are places that are snooty about the photo taking and will stop you loudly to embarrass you.

Here are the photos of the store that left me awe-struck, because you could tell the owner loves everything in the store. I hope they don’t take too long to load, because I realize that can be annoying. Being a total nerd, I get excited over things like this. Oh yes, there was also a little cafe in the front where you could have authentic belgian beer or just chilled coconut while watching Tintin on TV. A bit too hot for that though. The sun was scorching the skin off today.

I want to go to there…I love Tintin! If you ever visit New York, there is a Belgian restaurant called Petite Abeille near Union Square that has a kind of Tintin theme with several racks of the original books: http://www.yelp.com/biz/petite-abeille-new-york-3

After coming across this store I just want to get a whole stack of Tintin comic books to read. I wonder if I can find them in the library. Probably in the kid’s section even though these have pretty mature themes and language.

  11. Went right after the shop opened… Lovely! With so much CRAP in Chinatown nowadays, it is nice to have one worth visiting. I love Tin Tin and my dog looks just like Snowy! One of the best places in the Tanjong Pagar area. Everyone should stop by and have a nice cold Belgian beer and enjoy the adventures of Tin Tin!
